I am french speaking but i can write a bit of english (maybe with some errors).I have a child who his autistic He is now 24 years old and a lovely man with a brain of a 5 year old child. I have become fascanated with birds ,i have 8 cockatiels,2 lovebirds and 1 quaker. But i would love to own à grey and a cacatoo goffin !!!! When i heard about the greys and the cacatoos who pulled there plumage and even crunch at them ,i thought of my son who does tap his head or hurts himself because he is stessed out or angry and cannot express his emotions correctly. I think that there is a link and when searching the internet i saw your story i was overwelmed to write to you and to tell you what i was thinking about. I feel that there is a link in there with autism and the birds. I think that Pepper and Tim will be able to grow together and help each other towards a better understanding and a great love for years to come . Your site is in my favorites and i hope to come back and read more. Courage and love to you and yours ,Diane |

Hi Diane, Thank you so much for writing and for perusing our page. We are in the process of moving, so my updates have been sporadic, but will soon be back on track. I was very interested to read about your son, and I'm hoping that the connection between Tim and Pepper remains strong. If nothing else, he has been a welcome addition to our family, and is a healthy, happy bird. We take him on outings with us, and in the car both Tim and Pepper seem to have plenty to talk about. :-) So far, we have been fortunate in that Tim has not yet shown signs of self-abusive behavior, but he is still very young and I know that could certainly be something we have to face in future. I am curious, though, because of your son's age--is he with you all the time, or is there any kind of program for adults with autism with which he can participate? And I must say, your English is much better than my french, and I will now have to brush up! Merci, et bienvenue--Jessica |

Hi Jessica , My son is intergrated in a work place he does work in a shop that is for pesons who have all kinds of deficintcy and he does very well too.Of course it is only a couple of hours per day and it is supervised. He also as activities he is a great walker and he is in two marching clubs so he walks two times a week and can walk a 7 or 10 mile walk ,i for shure could not walk that much and he does that in about 1 and a half 2 hours at the most. You know when he was young i was afraid of the future for him and what he could do and accomplish and as time pass by now i know that his life is good and he is a participant in his own way He as a future and he is a positive force in life itself.I know that i worried when he was young and you do too but everything falls in place .Enjoy now and don't worry . Take care(prends soin de toi et des tiens) Diane et Mathieu |
